Agulha gasta danifica vinil, sim, claro, óbvio.

The two types have different designs and performance characteristics. It all starts with the stylus or needle on the phono cartridge. The stylus travels through the grooves on the record moving horizontally and vertically, tracking the minute fluctuations in the groove that represents the music on the record. As it travels, the stylus creates a small audio signal generated by the proximity of a magnet and a coil. All phono cartridges have magnets and a coil – the difference is where they are located.

The advantages of a moving magnet cartridge are high output, which means it is compatible with any phono input on a stereo component. Many moving magnet cartridges also feature a removable and replaceable stylus. This is important in the event of breakage.

Its disadvantages are that the magnets have higher weight or mass compared to a moving coil cartridge, which means they can't move as quickly in the record groove. This inhibits its ability to track subtle changes within the groove. This is where a moving coil cartridge has performance advantages.

Moving Coil Cartridge

A moving coil cartridge is sort of the opposite of a moving magnet cartridge. Instead of magnets, two small coils are connected to the end of stylus located in the body of the cartridge. The coils are smaller than magnets and weigh much less, giving the stylus more agility when navigating the constantly changing record grooves. In general, a moving coil cartridge traces the grooves better because of its lower mass and provides more detailed and accurate sound quality.

One disadvantage of the moving coil cartridge is that it generates a smaller voltage and requires a secondary preamplifier, sometimes known as a head amp. Its highly precise tracking ability and flat frequency response are made possible by Shure's unique Type II low-mass thin-wall aluminum alloy stylus cantilever, combined with a precision-crafted, finely polished, elliptical diamond tip.The very low mass M97xE cartridge shares several important features with the V15VxMR audiophile cartridge:Dynamic Stabilizer Damper/De-staticizer
· Shure's exclusive viscous-damped Dynamic Stabilizer, which maintains a uniform distance between the cartridge and the record under difficult playing conditions, such as those caused by warped records, or mismatched tonearm mass. When such stabilization is not required, the stabilizer brush can be locked up into its detent position, which, under ideal playing conditions, can provide even better sound quality.Die-cast Aluminum Mounting Block
· A die cast aluminum mounting block for secure, vibration-free attachment to the tonearm.Side-Guard Stylus Protection System
· The SIDE-GUARD stylus protection system that helps prevent stylus damage if the cartridge accidentally slides across a record. This unique feature responds to side thrusts on the stylus by withdrawing the entire stylus cantilever and tip safely into the stylus housing before the cantilever can be damaged.M97XE Technical Specifications:
· Output: 4.0mV RMS at 5 cm/sec
· Stylus:Diamond tip, Polished natural gemstone, Elliptical, Side x front radii: 0.2 x 0.7 mil
· Cantilever: Shure Type II - Very Low Mass, Heat-treated aluminum alloy / tubular, 1.0 mil wall thickness / 20 mil diameter
· Frequency Range: 20 to 22,000 Hz
· Tracking Force: 0.75-1.50g
· Weight: 6.6g
· Stereo Channel Balance: Within 2 dB
· Channel Separation: @1 kHz - 25 dB
· Recommended Load: 47 kilohms in parallel with 250 pf
· Height: 15.875mm
· Amplitude: 80 µm at 400 HzAccessories Included:
· Stylus Guard
· User Guide
· Mounting hardware
· Stylus cleaning brush
· Headshell Screwdriver
· Shure's Hi-Fi Cartridge Comparison GuideFeatures:
· Dynamic Stabilizer Damper/De-staticizer
· Die-case Aluminum Mounting Block
· Side-Guard Stylus Protection System

COMPARISONSThere are many choices at or near the M97’s price, none of which are quite as sweet-sounding. The Audio-Technica 440ML, widely available for $100, offers a finer stylus and slightly better tracing ability. Grado’s Black, Green and Silver, although very good, can’t equal the Shure’s trackability and in my experience, can sound a bit brittle. Ditto the Stanton and Goldring models below $100. The Ortofon X1-MC (discounted to about $110) may equal the Shure’s neutrality, but I found it to be ultimately less satisfying. The Ortofon OM10, sale priced at $60 these days, might give the Shure a run for its money in some respects, but I didn’t have mine long enough to say for sure. Denon’s DL-110 ($140) likely shares the DL-160’s bigger-than life-presentation and incredible speed, but it can also be an acquired taste. The Benz Micro MC20E2 ($175) is a rock star, with great bass and lots of life. Finally, there’s Rega’s Elys ($225), which I found to be disappointingly flat-sounding. CONCLUSIONSThe Shure M97xE may or may not be a baby V15. I’ll leave it to those who have heard both recently to answer that. Taken on its own terms, the M97 offers way above average detail retrieval, good imaging, decent soundstaging, excellent tracking and dynamics, and terrific build quality. More importantly, and harder to adequately describe, is its remarkable listenability and marked lack of harshness. I can easily imagine someone living happily with this cartridge for a decade or more, instead of ceaselessly clamoring for something better. (There’s a word for people like that: “sane.”)I’ve stayed up late on numerous occasions with this cartridge because it ‘gets out of the way’ (as they say in the magazines) and allows the music to shine. I suspect the few affectations it exhibits are more the doing of my turntable than the cartridge itself. True, surface noise can be slightly intrusive if you’re used to moving coils or more expensive moving magnets. I also wish the Shure had slightly tighter-sounding lows on some recordings, and improved soundstaging on others. Maybe you’ll find those qualities in the V15. Then again, maybe not. One thing’s for sure: the M97xE needn’t stand in its big brother’s shadow. It’s a wonderful little cartridge that deserves an audition in nearly any sub-$1000 analog playback system.

Price: U$$89,00 (August, 13, 2009).
Joaquim Martins Cutrimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13614663121583198504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5872090522924791936.post-35731276448034325782009-08-13T06:17:00.000-07:002009-08-13T06:21:18.850-07:00Ortofon 2M Red Phono Cartridge.

Ortofon 2M Red Phono Cartridge

Ortofon 2m Red: TAS Product of the Year

About the unique 2M design2M is developed together with the Danish designer "MøllerJensen Design" from Copenhagen, Denmark - the same designer who designed the award winning cartridge MC Jubilee and the Kontrapunkt series. The inspiration for designing the 2M was related to the facets of the diamond - elegantly concentrating its contours against the grooves on the record surface. The name 2M was selected among several ideas. We wanted a modernname which should be easy to pronounce and to remember, and therefore an alpha numerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet. We are using the same names on our 2M series as we use at our Rondo series: Red, Blue and Bronze. The 2M Black will become the flagship of 2M.2M was the last product of our former chief engineer Per Windfield. He has worked with the 2M for the last two years. The 2M technology2M are designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Our philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound. We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, weight and size to fit the most common turntables at the market today. All of the 2M cartridges feature diamonds which are polished to the highest standards in the industry. The 2M Red features a tipped elliptical diamond, while the 2M Blue features a nude elliptical diamond. The 2M Bronze features a nude Fine Line diamond stylus, which is particularly suited for demanding applications. The slim profile of the Fine Line stylus will track even the highest frequency information, making it a must for discerning listeners. Additionally, its larger footprint ensures reduced distortion and record wear. The 2M Black is the new moving magnet flagship from Ortofon. The 2M black is graced with a Shibata diamond stylus - the same diamond as on the acclaimed MC Jubilee. Its slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high frequency groove information. The 2M series has interchangeable stylus units and replacement stylus is available. To obtain a flat frequency response as with a Moving Coil cartridge we are using the slit pole pins to reduce the eddy current. The slit pole pins is an Ortofon invention which was presented in the 500 series and the Super OM series. The 2M Red and 2M Blue both have the same engine with slit pole pins. With this improved engine we have been able to increase to output to 5,5 mV.The cartridge body used for the 2M Bronze and 2M Black is manufactured from a newly-developed Noryl plastic/glass combination, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances. The 2M Bronze and 2M Black use a special upgraded engine, featuring split pole pins with a silver plated copper wire.About the Ortofon 2M magnetic cartridgeThe Ortofon 2M magnetic cartridge system is designed and developed for high performance reproduction of your favorite analogue records.Ortofon has developed magnetic cartridges in various designs for many types of record players, tone arms and for special purposes throughout the last 40 years. Walton's Belshazzar's Feast sounded like a good, spacious live broadcast, with plenty of depth, a fair degree of ambience, good tonal color and lively dynamics; true diminuendo and crescendo. . . The Denon produced an excellent balance of sound, particularly well-suited to acoustic jazz. It also made more than a fair stab at perspective, managing to keep pace with rhythm and time signatures.

Jerry Raskin Comments on Denon DL-110

The owners manual claims in both English and Japanese 1.6mV of output, but when I tested the cartridge it produced 2.2mV. That's the difference between an easy-to use and tweak cartridge. I've always suspected the output was higher then claimed. . . Best diamond stylus in its price range. Under a microscope, it looks like a 100% nude, square-shank diamond with a very fine cut similar to cartridges costing twice the price. I love it.

To get the maximum enjoyment out of your album collection, check out the Denon DL-110 phono cartridge. The Denon DL-110 is a moving-coil cartridge. However, it is has high output, and can therefore be used with a moving-magnet phono input.

Price today, August 12, 2009: U$$139,00.Joaquim Martins Cutrimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13614663121583198504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5872090522924791936.post-35447326208004702832009-08-12T18:15:00.000-07:002009-08-12T18:22:08.101-07:00Ortofon MC 1 Turbo
Ortofon MC 1 Turbo High Output MC Cartridge

Technical Data:
Output voltage at 1000 Hz, 5cm/sec.: 3,3 mV
Channel balance at 1 kHz: <> 22 dB
Channel separation at 15 kHz: > 15 dB
Frequency range: 20-25.000 Hz
Frequency response: 20-20.000 Hz + 4 / - 1 dB
FIM distortion at recommended tracking force, DIN 45.542:
<> 65 µm.
Compliance, dynamic, lateral: 13 µm/mN
Stylus type: Elliptical
Stylus tip radius: r/R 8/18 µm
Equivalent stylus tip mass: 0,75 mg
Tracking force range: 1,8-2,2 g (18-22 mN)
Tracking force, recommended: 2 g (20 mN)
Tracking angle: 20°
Internal impedance, DC resistance: 100 Ohm
Recommended load impedance: 47 kOhm / < 500 pF
Cartridge body material: Noryl
Cartridge color: Black
Cartridge weight: 4,1 g
Tracking force, recommended: 2 g (20 mN)
Tracking angle: 20°
Internal impedance, DC resistance: 100 Ohm
Recommended load impedance: 47 kOhm / < 500 pF
Cartridge body material: Noryl
Cartridge color: Black
Cartridge weight: 4,1 g. The cost difference between the Reference and Prestige series are the closer tolerances, skilled technicians vs assembly line production, much higher parts cost and different design in the Reference series. The Prestige series of cartridges are designed for high output and excellent stability under severe use. A considerable tip mass reduction results in a frequency response to 55 kHz and beyond and tracking forces from 1-2 grams. The Black and Green models use a three piece OTL cantilever technology, standard oxygen free wire in the coils and Grado's specially designed elliptical diamond mounted in a brass bushing. The Green model is selected from the Black production run and meet higher test specifications. Approximately 15% of the production run will meet these standards and become Green models.Black & Green Technical Specification: *
Output at 1KHz 5CM/sec. 5mV Cartridge Type: Moving Iron Stylus Type: Specially designed elliptical diamond Wire: Ultra-high purity long crystal copper Frequency Response: 20~50,000 Hz Recommended Tracking Force: 1-2g Recommended Load: 47 Kohm Channel Separation at 1KHz 30 Inductance 45mH Resistance 475 Compliance CUs 20 Stylus Replacement U=user U Mounting S/P Weight 5.5 Body: ABS plastic.
Price today (August, 12, 2009: U$$ 60,00).
*
Fonte: http://www.needledoctor.com/ (Obs.: Baixe o arquivo .PDF disponível e entenda melhor a engenharia de construção desta cápsula.

Grado Cartridges Superior Design & Precision Fabrication

All Grado cartridges now use a derivation of the moving iron principle which feature patented OPTIMIZED TRANSMISSION LINE cantilever technology, PIVOTED FIXED AXIAL STYLUS-GENERATOR MODULE, and Grado's FLUX-BRIDGER GENERATOR SYSTEM.
Joaquim Martins Cutrimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13614663121583198504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5872090522924791936.post-46257875297981446582009-08-12T14:00:00.000-07:002009-08-12T15:24:00.962-07:00Explicando porque o sistema Moving Iron é melhor.

Joaquim Martins Cutrimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13614663121583198504noreply@blogger.com
